Splurgeworthy Pinot Noir: Talley

2010 Talley Vineyards Pinot Noir Arroyo Grande Valley Estate $36

On par with Foley's risk-free and consistently infatuating Santa Rita Hills bottling, this is a textbook example of what makes the next echelon of Central Coast Pinot Noirs so damned irresistible. Exotically perfumed in a subtle musty and mysterious way, textured with the suppleness of equatorial sea water, and in possession of fruit expansive enough to easily disguise the 14.5% ABV.  Gains in intensity and depth as it unfolds over many hours.

Word is Talley's very limited (and much pricier) single vineyard bottlings - such as the Rincon and Rosemary Vineyards- are not only worth the search, but also every penny. I intend to find out when I visit next week.

Stay tuned. In the meantime, $36 is a fair price for an experience like this. Enjoy.
